and i wonder where my soldier has gone.
duty called you away to a horizon unknown,
where no one had dared, but your wings have flown.

remember the time when we’d write letters
of midnight hiking ventures and rescue helicopters?
a gale in time can wipe away these memories,
making me hopeless, and you impervious.

did the war do this to us? blew it all up.
made you the soldier who will just give up?
they let you take flight, a chance to be a hero.
put a flag patch on your shoulder, and away you flew.

a hero with a mountain of strength,
thats what you are to me. hope you knew.
snow has camouflaged the mountains white.
i wonder why you havent called home tonight.
