Selling Price Of My Child Is Rs. 25

“I’m ready to sell my child for Rs.25 with a profit of Rs.25 and at 100% loss to my motherhood” says a mother of 6 months old baby.
This is the condition of many parents in Orissa and other parts of India, who are selling their children for even small amount of money. Poverty is forcing them to commit this sin. They are poor, don’t have enough money to but food for their family even for a single day. If they don’t sell their children, their kids will die out of hunger. ”I’m happy, my 7 years old boy fetched Rs.1000, enough o make provision for entire family members, atleast for some weeks”, says a father.
These children are bought by wealthy people. These people make their bought slaves do entire household work. These children are deprived of their basic rights. Here also they suffer malnutrition. Parents on the other side hope their children are having better life than what they could have offered them.
Few days back, it was reported in newspaper and shown in television channels that a mandi (fair) was organized for trade of young children. Brokers were happy for getting more commission more than the amount paid to the parents. I hope brokers are now busy in making arrangements for organizing that fair in a more wider platform. If that day comes ever, it will bring only shame for us.
I don’t know what government is doing, it must be sleeping I guess! If ever they get awaked from their sound sleep, they don’t forget performing their duties. They will organize a press meeting and as usual will say, ” we have formed a committee for doing investigation and very soon we will come out with results and strong action will be taken against those involved in it”.
I don’t understand what they are investigating and against whom. Here, in this case culprits themselves are victims.
Many social organizations are coming forward but problem lies in same phase at root level. Every body has a belly attached to it and belly needs food. So, for a poor, selling children is the first and last option and food bought by that money is poisoning him morally.
