If I Died Tomorrow

Faiqah Mumtaz September 12, 2006

Tags: poem , death

If I died tomorrow,
And I would be able to see no morrow,
This is to let you know,
Don’t plunge yourself into sorrow,
Because I am always with you,
And let the love of me in you grow,
Put red roses on my grave,
And let me know you miss me deeply, though,
Let
no tears on your cheeks flow,
Or misery through my rotting bones would sow,
Look around you, I am with you,
Even in the winds outside the door that blow,
That would whisper sweetly my messages with thoughtful marrow,
Even in the rain drops that on the pains flow,
And the flower stems that the cool breeze bow,
I will be watching you from above the clouds,
Where the pretty robins fly while they crow,
I will fall on the ground as a flake of snow,
And peep through to you from the Margalla hills’ brow,
I’ll ask God to give my spirit wings as a sparrow,
So that I can watch you while sitting on your room’s window,
My bones would rot into the mud’s dough,
But my spirit in search of you would fly and go,
My spirit would sit on the craters of the moon,
And smile to you through the silvery moonlight glow,
Even though my body will be in the dirt trough,
My heart, away in your heart will stow,
I thank you for all that you had on me bestow,
How pleased I was to have your company, I will never have words to endow
Remember, I will take the shape of good omens,
It will be me when you see a beautiful butterfly hovering up and below,
And so,
If you ever miss me, talk to me in your heart sure and slow,
And you will feel all the presence of me that can show!
