Whirling Dervish January 7, 1998

The faint rustle and tiny tinkle
Of the bells around her ankle
Whisper like a soft breeze
As she dances a turn, a pirouette
Flashes her eyes - such a coquette!
Her sinuous movements do so please
The eyes... The chime of her ghungroos
The pout of her lips - what a ruse!
She floats
The kohl of her eyes, the rose of her lips
The curve of her waist, the sway of her hips
Her charms so intoxicating, so heady, so airy.
The lady glides, and, having gone,
Stays in my mind; for all her beauty,
Her elegance, her charm and sensuality
Torment me eve to stealthy morn
Her lips and dark eyes do haunt
Her cool glances to me do taunt
Her slim hips; her lively jaunt
And I am ever consumed with want
She moves again, and finds a man,
Her hand she gives in a dance
A skip, a step, a tiny prance
Like a whirling dervish she lands
My pagan desire to enhance
Harken! She eyes me - a chance?
Alas, nothing but a passing glance.
