Daddy’s Girl

Bina Shah November 14, 1998

It wasn't so long ago

The breathlessness of an age

Where we had to stutter to be heard.

When I was that age

I never knew hunger or pain. I was

Like a new found peace

in a wartorn land.

Separate paths brought us to the same destination

I handed you the
instrument of your end

I gave you immortality.

But apologies have no room to breathe in

My comprehensions.

Wrapped in sheets of sadness, I

search for you in endless corridors.

Every man I meet becomes a representation of

your absence.

Silence pulses with the need to speak

Darkness cries out in wanting to be seen

Hatred longs only to be loved

As I imagine you lost, waiting to be found.
