Wishing Numbness

It’s not like the quit smoking love,

Ain’t like a start over romance,

It’s the satin that covers your breast,

Or the warmth of the back of your hand,

That gently roams on my lips.

It’s not like the wax or the flame

One can only last as long as the other exist,

It’s like playing Russian roulette,

Only this time the rules of the game have changed.

It’s not like playing pinball or the points of love,

Not like being caught staring at those silent raindrops,

It’s the pain of being someone close to thee,

Or the tear that trickles down for none to see,

It is the letter in the bottle I threw out to sea.

It’s not the drink it down love,

Or the hangover romance,

It’s the scent of your hair that leaves me weak,

And the hours it takes me to change the sheets,

Or the colorless roses lying at my feet.

Not like I could double dutch this one,

Nor is my arrogance melting much,

It’s done.

Not like the paint it over graffiti,

Or the quilt that made all of them sit,

It’s the stitch that made all the sense,

Love is the artist behind that fence.

I’m probably just an abstract a reflection of thee,

No doubt it was you that lived in me.
