Our Inzee Bhai

Omer Cheema September 2, 2003

Tags: cricket

"I am motivated for the game, and I want to make a comeback with a bang.:Inzamam Ul Haq." was the headline of the sports section of a daily newspaper. Being a fan of Inzee Bhai since his one and only good performance at World Cup
92, this news was somewhat relieving for me as I always wanted to see the "Guploo Guploo Inzee Bhai" standing on a crease and punishing each and every bowl of the innocent bowlers.

I have a reason to think like that. Inzamam, 33, has made 6,214 runs in 85 Tests, including a career-best 329 in his most recent Test innings on home soil, against New Zealand at Lahore two years ago. His "betting" (I am sorry to use this word but I think that it is more precise to use this term for "batting" in modern cricket.) average at 48.92 looks quite decent. In 290 one day internationals, he has made almost 9000 runs with a "betting" avg of 40. But he managed just 19 runs in six innings in the World Cup in South Africa. Only six innings can’t be the meausre of a good quality batsman. A bad batsman can never make 9000 runs in one day international and more than 6000 runs in test cricket. One needs to be a hero to do that. And he is perhaps a hero in my eyes.

"He was tired and he perhaps needed rest ." says our chief selector Aamir Sohail. Another Good news for me. Our chief selector has a confidence in this quality batsman and he is introducing him back in the international cricket against Bangladesh to assure that he makes some good looking scores. Relatively easier betting against Bangladeshi kids will result in higher scores for inzamam ul haq and perhaps he can earn a permanent place in the Pakistani cricket team after this series.

Just before the start of the match, I was dreaming about a tripple century of "Motoo Inzee". He has practised a lot. He has decreased his weight. He says that he will never be a "run out" victim from now. Our PCB has too much confidence in his abilities and they are all sure that Inzee will make a come back with a bang. Shouldn’t everybody dream that the cute Bengali Kids will learn harsh lessons from our Giant "One and only, Inzee Bhai"?

Match starts at Karachi. First innings of Pakistan in progress and our Inzee Bhai makes a come back:an early come back to pavilion. A bang in my head. A zero by Inzee Bhai. Zero looks beautiful just like an egg. I love eggs but only if they are given by a hen, not by Inzee Bhai. But this is Inzee’s another egg. I am disappointed. Perhaps, PCB should open a bakery to sell Inzee’s too many "aandas". They will earn a lot of profit if our Inzee Bhai remains in the team for a longer time and keeps on performing the same way.
