Corporate Environment

When Nalaiq was informed that he will be meeting the Board of Directors, he became quiet nervous. Nalaiq has been the CEO of Lootmar Company for many years and has done well to increase revenues by a substantial margin. His performance has been unquestionable and the Board of Directors have repeatedly
chosen him for the post of CEO. However, it was quiet surprising when he found out that they were not satisfied with the profit levels and wanted to discuss new opportunities for future growth.

“So Mr. Nalaiq, what should we do to increase our profits?” asked by one of the directors.

“Sir, our company is dong well. Lootmar Company’s sales are soaring”. Nalaiq justified.

“No, Mr. Nalaiq, we think we have to find the ways to increase our profits and we expect you to come up with new avenues to earn profits.”

“Sir, we have tried all avenues. We have already robbed the country's resources and now we are beginning to show our corporate responsibility by arranging walks for better environment and peace. Yes, we can increase our profits by cutting back some of our budget on ‘corporate responsibility initiatives.” Explained Nalaiq.

“But Mr. Nalaiq we have to show corporate responsibility since all our competitors are doing this.”

One director who had not spoken yet suddenly commented, “why not commercialize our corporate environment.”

Everybody looked at him in amazement. The silent director continued
“One of our cultures is the strict code of dressing. Like, all our male staff has to wear tie and coat. We can change their way of dressing and earn more profits.”

“But how Mr. Silent director?”

“It is very simple. Like all the soccer and cricket players who wear sponsored clothes, we can also get sponsorships for our employees working in different capacities. For e.g. Mr. Nalaiq should stop wearing dress pants and shirts and replace it with sherwanis byAddidas. Moreover, all our employees working in marketing department that interact with many people on daily basis should start wearing dhotis by Nike.”

Nalaiq jumped in excitement “This is a terrific idea. I think we will earn more if we can cut down our clothes further. Instead of wearing dhotis we can make a rule that all employees must wear chaddis. This way, we can get sponsorships for socks as well.”

“Great idea Mr. Nalaiq. So now we have decided that what should be our new dress code for employees; sponsored sherwanis, chaddis and socks.”

“But what about our female employees? What dress will they wear?” asked by another director.

“I think since we are living in an Islamic Republic, we can not force them to wear chaddis. For them, it is better to wear burqas”.

“What else we can commercialize Mr. Nalaiq?”
“We can provide sling shots to our chokidars. They can carry a sponsored sling shot. Moreover, they can wear turkish topis that every family has in their closet Oakley”.

“Hey! I can help you get sponsorship from my uncle who has set up a vest factory in Kuwait. He will be willing to provide us vest for our chokidars. It is called A.G vest.”

“What A.G stands for?”

“Abdul Ghani”

“So why don’t we do one thing. We can make it mandatory for our Chokidars to wear only vest and carry a sponsored slingshot. There is no need why they should wear shirts.”

“That is absolutely right” supported another director.

After a long pause, Nalaiq said “So all we have to do is to get sponsorships from Nike, Addidas, Oakley and A.G vest”

“That is right and once we are done with this, we can become trendsetters for other companies to follow our footsteps.”
