I blew my wad on all the bright light boys
and when they spiraled down, like fireflies
over the edge of the world, I cried –
See, I always wanted to save my boys
from ending, from breathing, from stifling themselves.
But they don’t last – that’s what I’ve found –
so
I bring out wrench and stethoscope
and I put out
my travelling shingle
but for all the bright light boys
that Wyle-E-Coyote down,
I tell you, there’s nothing in this saviour business anyhow.
