A modern Indian fable
Chapter 1
Once upon a time there lived a Lion, fierce, territorial , commanding but with an inner smile on his face that meant but one thing - he knew what he wanted - had what was needed to get it and decided to go hunting. There was no fear involved with this – He was King of the Jungle
‘Cool Cat’.
Now far across the land, in fact, resided a Dolphin, quite happy with her daily goings on, but feeling that it may be advantageous if her life were stirred up a little – some things were a trifle dormant, in fact rather dead – so why not go on a safari to the Indian Sub- Continent !!!This was brilliant, she thought – all these wild animals to play with , to watch and to share the wild with – she loved the ocean - but the jungle with it’s trees, flowers and waters presented a different challenge. Even though she was a Fish, why should she have to live in the water alone – She had never been too keen on boundaries – there was a wonderful world out there to explore.
So out she set.
Being a Dolphin with much on her mind, she got off on the wrong continent and was quite bewildered – this was not the jungle she was looking for. She found and lay in a cool pond and thought this over when all of a sudden something jumped out of the bushes and said, extending his chest ‘ I’m a LION, who are you’. Startled, she wiggled her tail, and ordered the Lion to stand back. NO, she wasn’t frightened of him, she just wanted to have a better look . He did look fierce and had a very serious look on his face – she wiggled her tail some more-this just helped with her focus – ‘Well, I’m a Dolphin’ – She gazed upon him from head to claw - I can see that you are not to be trifled with, mighty beast, but how about if we hang out together?
It was a rather hot day, the Lion, even though’ he did not care too much for bodies of water, jumped in – what a splash. The LION was ready to play, the Dolphin swam to the other side - she wasn’t aware of the games he had in mind – he knew for sure what he had on his mind. Reaching out he growled softly- ‘ come here little Dolphin, and let this mighty Lion show you what he has for YOU. She wiggled her tail again - stand back –You may be King of the jungle, but I am Queen of the oceans, and you know what they control and command – this didn’t faze the Lion at all, he smiled ( yes, he did) and grabbed the Dolphin – she was totally in his control, what was a mere fish to do? She soon found out……………………
After much movement in the pond ( this is a R rated fable) – the waters were still for few moments and then movement started all over again. This Lion really wanted to play and this Dolphin was having a ball………
Chapter 2
Exhausted but relaxed the Dolphin looked far into the eyes of the Lion – he was already looking into her eyes. It dawned upon both of them that differences were of no consequence – what they had just experienced was unadulterated joy. They both were quiet – what was happening here? There was a need for silence and introspection.
Occasionally in life there is no reason for what transpires, it is par for the course and should be gratefully accepted. This dawned upon both the Lion and the Dolphin. These creatures from different worlds had many similarities ( they both hailed from the Indian Sub- Continent), those features that were new to one another, would be learnt and understood and enjoyed. Didn’t Woody Allen write” 80 % of success was showing up.”
The Lion and the Dolphin had to move closer to one another, it was a natural thing to do. The mighty beast had to wrap the Dolphin in his arms for she was rather slippery. Her tail began to wiggle again- these sensations were wonderful – What was the Lion doing to her-
the Dolphin, decided, why ask!!
The Dolphin was enjoying the stamina of this Lion – she had a great deal herself and it took a true animal to fully comprehend and understand this.
The Dolphin had been swimming the ocean on her own for a while. She had kept herself very busy, very active and had become aware of much in her life. She was happy with what she had learn’t from past experiences, she was joyful of what was happening right now and the future was to be full of surprises.
How often to you see a Lion and Dolphin together?
Isn’t it fabulous when you do?
When he is not there she is protected by his presence and she extends to him all the strengths she has extracted from the oceans.
