A poem
If you please put your ear on this floor,
And let your breath remain still for a while,
You will hear the rustle drear that frightens me.
It frightens me in the silence of dying nights.
It frightens me when my wife retreats to sleep,
When run to school my children
plodding and pale,
And when their last steps absorb in the walls,
These omnipresent incantations start to grow.
These muffled sounds like pigeon’s coo resound,
In this dark chamber and my heart with them chants
And let your breath remain still for a while,
You will hear the rustle drear that frightens me.
It frightens me in the silence of dying nights.
It frightens me when my wife retreats to sleep,
When run to school my children
And when their last steps absorb in the walls,
These omnipresent incantations start to grow.
These muffled sounds like pigeon’s coo resound,
In this dark chamber and my heart with them chants
