Smile, she says.
I look into her cold glass eye,
Cyclops trying to capture me
With the savagery of her silver spell,
A faithless fiction murmuring deceit
And the everlasting echo of the damned
Who with promises unkept, were swept
From life to the death
There will be no such end for me
I claim, though as I see it rise, its beastly cries
Of “Please don’t frown” undo the mend.
My fidgety revenge comes to its end.
Noiselessly the monster bursts into light.
A cold white swoop,
The indifferent grace of an expert kill,
Then all is still.
I am trapped.
