Pakistan’s destiny cannot forever be controlled by a group of people or by any establishment, regardless of whether it is foreign or domestic. Pakistan may only march towards attaining it’s interests, if the
country institutionalizes itself. Depriving Pakistan of it’s institutions is similar to depriving a body of it’s vital organs. We must act in concert with the recognized and natural evolutionary patterns of an ideally functioning democratic state, or face the prospect of witherng away, like the the great nations and empires of the past who have failed to do so.
In the interest of promoting the creation of a genuine, stable, durable, and functioning democracy in Pakistan, it is imperative for the current regime to ensure that the institutionalization of Pakistan begins immediately. The entire ’institutional formula shall fall flat on it’s face if it does not take place concurrently with the democratic process. Ensuring free, fair, and impartial elections is the only way that the institutional formula shall be capable of working. Therefore, the democratic process and the institutional process must take place concurrently.
Firstly , one must question what does institutionalization imply? It essentially means that ’organs’ are sowed into Pakistan, whose sole duty is to maintain and increase the strength of the Pakistani nation and of the population internally. It would be beneficial if it would be egaliatarian in thought and action, it must be capable of withstanding and eventually eliminating the dangerous practise of nepotism and cronyism. The institutions should be designed in such a manner, that the state is capable of functioning normally at all times whatsoever, regardless of the political tensions amongst the politicians. The ideal of good goverance should naturally be the mantra of the instituions. This implies that the people must collectively be in the consideration of the institutions, not 2% of a minority elite who can not identify with the masses due to their different standings on the social ladder. The will of the majority must be given utmost important as long as it is not in ultra-vires of the constitution. The rights of the minority must be respected as well. The institution must also aspire to ensure that the rights of the people are never imbreached upon and they must also strive towards oiling the wheels of the economic and political stability in Pakistan. The people, the effects of their decisions on the people, and the effects of the precedent of the decision for the people in the future, are all central towards advancing and then maintaining this ideal.
A potent, independent, free, impartial, and just judiacary equiped with the ability and nurtured with the stomach to confront issues of national importance shall serve as the mother of ever-lasting reforms on Pakistan. As stated earlier, the judiaciary must take into account what signifigance the precedents of it’s decisions has upon the destiny of the Pakistani nation and the Pakistani people. Justice may never be denied or delayed to any quarter of our society, as delaying justice would be similar to denying justice. The definition of the judiacary is not restricted to the Supreme Court. It is the duty of every single court in Pakistan to deliver justice to the people. The court must serve as centers of prosperity and progress for our nation. Transparency, impariality, and independence should be the key attributes of the proposed court system. This is the only way that the tide may be turned agaisnt corruption, black-marketing,piracy, abuse of copy-righted material, denial of economic and(or) political rights to The Citizenry, nepotism, cronyism , abuse of women, child-labor, and a multitude of other problems. The very foundations of a society are based upon the court system of the society. For example, court’s shall strive to root out corruption and mismangement of government funds. This shall result in several benefits for Pakistan, such as a better business environment, a more disciplined society, and lastly help in uplifting the position of the masses.
Two of Pakistan’s neighbor’s have suceeded in integrating the democratic concept into their political system of government. Iran, a Muslim-majority Islamic country, is one of the few Muslim countries in the world with a functioning, popularly-elected government. Yes, there are certain reservations regarding the disqualification of liberal candidates, but that perceived travesty is irrelevant at the moment. The fact that they are capable of having elections, where there is no-vote rigging and manipulation of the masses is truly fascinating, and that is precisely what we need to promote more in our elections. Our institutions must strive to ensure that the democratic process may be execirsed with no breach of the democratic spirit.
India and Pakistan are two enstranged twins whose history now may have become hate-ridden because of the occupational policies of the former, but now the time is ripe for both nations to march forward in the interest of mutual co-existence. India is a secular, functioning democracy, who, like Pakistan, suffers from the prescence of a minority fanatical right. The Kashmir issue, the perceived abuse of Indian Muslims in India, and the descration of Islamic holy sites are three issues of primary importance to
most Pakistanis. The mismangement of Hindu holy sites in Pakistan and support for plebliscite in Kashmir are two issues, which can rile up any Indian. Both sides must realize the sensitivities of the other, and then proceed to reach such an understanding on all outstanding issues that no demagogue can use these issues to derail the peace process between both nations. The concern here is not about the well-being of the Indians but it is a bid for Pakistan to buy time to instil the proposed changes in it’s widely perceived to be failing system, so that we are capable of standing on our two feet again. We must never have to sell out ourselves because of financial obligations nor should we ever have to prostrate to any non-Pakistani political entity.
There will be parties with conflicting interests, who shall attempt to derail the proposed vision for a Greater Pakistan. Firstly, the creation of an Independent Election Commission shall serve as our 1st line of defense agaisnt the enemy-within. It shall ensure that there is no manipulation whenever elections take place. Secondly, our media has fundementally changed ever since President Pervaiz Musharraf and his enlightened policies came along. We need to allow our media to become more powerful, and influentifial amongst the masses. This shall result in greater transparency in the future, which would be benifitial for us.
Sectarianism, sectionalism, factionalism, ’Punjabism’, ’Sindihism’, ’Baluchism’, ’Pashtunism’, ’Searikism’, neo-liberalism, pseudo-extremism, talibanism, one could name another 50 ’ism’ ideaologies, which are tearing our unity apart. Remeber Bengalism? It led to the dismemberment of East Pakistan from our federation. Sectionalism and factionalism are very dangerous and it threatens to tear apart the very fabric of our society. We all are Pakistanis, and whatever decision we make should be in the interest of Pakistan, not for our own vested-interests. To counter this threat, Pakistan urgently needs the creation of a National Reconcialiation Council (N.R.C). The goal of the National Reconcialiation Council should be to ensure that a sense of understanding is restored between all the leaders of different portions of our society. It must serve as a third party, where the establishment and dissenting parties may register their complaints, and in an egalitarian manner, the N.R.C should present it’s suggestions.
The just always have and always will prevail over the wicked. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) intially was outnumbered numerically, financially, influentially, when he was accorded his prophethood, but he prevailed did he not? The precedents of equality, justice, peace, and wisdom he set upon a people are unprecedented since time immemorial. We must always rember that as Muslims, it is our duty to protect the weak agaisnt the unjust, to strive towards good-goverance, to aspire to alleviate the condition of our people, to create a perfectly ideal society. In conclusion, a democracy may never function properly without egalitarian institutions, and a people may never properly progress if their institutions are flawed.
