Here is a man who stands for the truth, who is honest and his Integrity is unquestionable. Is this not the most basic of elements that I should look for in a Leader? And all these years I have been overly critical when it came to analysing Imran’s Politics. If I look around then I don’t see
a single politician who possesses the same qualities as him in Pakistan. The arrogant generals are currently ruling Pakistan but who is to replace them? For a moment If I picture Benazir or Nawaz ruling again then it gives me no hope what so ever. It will be the same culprits and the same system and no doubt the chaudhrys of Gujrat would still somehow appear in the picture again.
I did not vote for Imran Khan in the last two elections in spite of having an inclination towards him. Maybe I always thought Imran Khan will give up very soon and that he will get tired of the politics and realize this is a mess that cannot be solved by him alone. But I have been proved wrong by him. He is determined as ever and his intensity is growing day by day. Even if he is fighting a losing battle than it should not stop anyone from voting for him. I truly believe him when he says that no matter how many times he is defeated or how badly he is defeated, he wants to fight for what is correct no matter what it takes and in the end face his Maker with his head held high. According to many Imran is not in touch with the common man of Pakistan and this is a big misconception. What inspired me most during his recent address at LSE in London is that he truly believes in Governing through people, he considers them the only power strong enough to elect him. This was a sentiment instigated into Imran when he got in touch with the masses for building his cancer hospital. No doubt he made impossible turn into a possibility with his zeal and determination. He has the quality to induce the kind of self belief that was done only by Z.A. Bhutto in the history of Pakistan. A characteristic which is entirely missing from the rest of the current political leaders.
Imran has principles and he adheres to those principles. When Musharraf wanted him to be the prime minister, many wanted him to accept the post as they thought this was the only way Imran could come into power and do some good. Imran refused and time has proven that he is right. He did not want to be part of the culprits and the crooks. He is someone who believes in changing the system and is not just another power hungry politician. He has always talked about independence of Judiciary and strengthening of Institutions and his policies and statements have reflected that in the past. He has come down hard on Musharraf in the current judicial crisis. It can be said that the rest of the parties are full of hypocrisy when it comes to Independence of Judiciary who are just trying to make the most of a situation but Imran is the only person who has not only stood for Judiciary in times of crisis but has also spoken for the correctness of Judiciary. He always realized how fundamental and important part the Judiciary plays in order for a democracy to work.
Recently a private TV channel compare tried his best to grill Imran Khan in his talk show. The compare seemed very determined and at times resorting to insulting remarks but the interesting thing to notice was the only material he could find was the constitution of PTI. This is a bit rare in Pakistan as mostly each and every politician in Pakistan carries sufficient material relating to corruption, crimes etc. I may myself disagree with some of his policies but there is no one close to being an alternative. I doubt if the other two leaders waiting in exile have read their party constitution or the Holy Mullahs even know what should be there in a party constitution.
Imran posseses truly magnificient Leader ship skills. He has no lack of courage and after the May 12 carnage by the Karachi Mafia he has stood for his workers and almost single handed challenged the ’Don of Edgeware’ road. Altaf, a person no body in Pakistan dares to speak against. Even the so called free media and newspaper were quiet on the Don but Imran once again has been the first politician to have the courage without the state support to have a show down with Altaf’s mafia politics.
In the current judicial crisis, the missing people’s issue, the May 12 carnage, Imran is truly emerging to be the voice of the people. Win or lose he is and he would certainly fight a good battle just like he wishes to.
