There is no way

There is no way you say
I smile
and nod assent.
There is no way.

And around me,
silently
life packs up
and leaves.

And your smell is in the grass
and the grass is in my hair
and my thoughts end
in the
hollow
of your
throat.


After the Rain

Whiplash of green
Clean grit along your teeth
Edged with a worrying honesty
The skies have parted
And the marbled blue gray of your equilibrium is shattered

The lull
And now

Jangling softly
Delicate spider webs
Diadems of moisture
In your hair
Like the drop of rain
Hanging from the tip of the blue veined leaf
Its tracery straining
Taut
Not daring to fall

A splash
And now

Only the dregs of the day remain
Soft
Blurred
Like your composure
