Actors: Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Lucy Liu, Sonny Chiiba et al.
Director: Quentin Tarantino, Producer:

This is the fourth (complete) film from Quentin Tarantino and is, quite simply, a masterpiece of cinema in which QT pays homage to the martial arts genre and, especially, to the kung-fu films of the 70s but with his unmistakable touch evident in every frame.

The story is a simple one: Uma Thurman (who looks gorgeous) plays the Bride, a former member of an assassin squad whose erstwhile colleagues (for some as yet unexplained reason) decide to try to kill her on her wedding day along with her hubby, yet unborn baby, and 8 others. Unfortunately for them they only succeed in putting her in a coma.
Four years later she comes out of her coma (dramatically since this is a QT film and with great style!) and seeks revenge on her former colleagues. Each of them (five in all) is named after a breed of snake! There are 5 people on Uma`s hitlist and she kills them in turn: this first part follows her as she kills Vivica A.Fox and Lucy Liu. The main person on the list is the leader of the assassin squad..Bill. The other 3 (including Bill) will be dealt with in the next movie presumably (Kill Bill volume 2 --out in Feb 2004).

Though the plot is simple, QT being QT uses a wide variety of cinematic devices to keep the movie moving at a breathtaking speed including flashbacks, non-linear plot, different `chapters`, black and white photography, and even Manga anime! Large portions of the film are even filmed in Japanese with English subtitles (a first for an American film!) This film shows his genius as a director and a film-maker. It is a masterpiece and by far the best film of the year so far and one of the best of the past 10 years.

It is also incredibly violent with over 88 people being killed in one--20 minute scene of incredible virtuosity alone! The sword-fighting and fight choreography has to be seen to be believed. To top it all there is a brilliant soundtrack composed by the RZA ( a black gangsta rap group). I am not a big fan of gangsta rap at all but RZA has composed a perfect soundtrack to this cool movie. If you are put off by limbs and heads being chopped off by samurai swords and blood spurting like a fountain then this is not for you but if you enjoy unique, cutting edge cinema by a master of the art at his creative peak...check out Kill Bill as soon as possible!

Finally a word of praise must be reserved for Uma Thurman who carries this film almost entirely on her own (she is in nearly every frame). She shows great acting ability and virtuosity in this role as the Bride and she looks damn sexy in that yellow track suit with a black stripe (a homage to the one worn by Bruce Lee in Game of Death). Can`t wait till Volume 2...

An almost perfect film. 5/5!
