Economic Development Conference at MIT

A day long conference on " Economic and Social Development" will be held at the MIT Sloan School of Management in Cambridge MA, , on Saturday March 07 1998.


will host the event live at the Chatroom, starting from 9:30am EST (6:30am Pacific Time) on Saturday March 07. Associate covering the event at MIT will be logged on live at the Chatroom throughout the event. They will take questions and comments from Chowkwalas around the world, convey them to the speakers, and relay back their responses at the Chatroom.


The text of the speeches will placed on as they are made available by the conference delegates. With some presentation texts already on and with detailed profiles of all speakers, Chowkwalas will be able to utilize the live chat coverage well. The Economic & Social Development Conference will be held at the
MIT Sloan School of Management on Saturday, March 7, 1998. The day-long
conference, featuring the theme "Integrating Into the New Global
", will be addressed by nearly 20 speakers from business, academia,
, and non-governmental organizations. Panel discussion sessions
on Social Development, Economic Issues, and Political will be
complemented by a screening of the recent documentary "Mr. : The
Making of " as well as a keynote address by Mr. Shaukat Aziz,
Executive Vice President of Citibank. The event has been organized by
Pakistani students at several Boston-area colleges and is primarily
sponsored by Citibank, the of , and MIT. Conference
organizers have defined broad goals of:


Providing a forum to discuss the various political, economic, and social
issues affecting
Providing realistic evaluations and recommendations for makers
and institutions
Fostering positive and innovative initiatives for the improvement of
's situation


The conference is expected to attract an audience of nearly 300 university
students and young professionals. Pre-registration is strongly recommended.
