The Rhino

Ajay Kumar October 27, 1998

Tags: Tragedy , Violence

Why do we call

Rhino thick-skinned?

Because they cannot retort.

Give speech to their silence.

They will whisper and say

humans you are great.

Bereft of pangs of conscience,

you are blessed.

No tragedy or pain

is strong enough

to move and stir you.

Your
imperviousness is

in the least imperial.

Is brilliance absence of conscience?

Mechanical products are more uniform.

This is the era

of 'nuclear giants' and ethical pygmies.

Otherwise how can you

cheers and toast

to Hiroshima and Nagasaki

where even stone and steel

melted and cried at

this crowing glory?

Telly breaks the news 'countless'

humans roasted alive, killed

and maimed in Uppahar talkies fire'.

Party is in bloom.

'This is sad Yaaar'

Cheers and clink of glasses

to drive away evil spirits.

Was not this response adequate?

Virgin heart is untouched

but for the above lip service.

Obviously this is not the

opportune moment to brood

about losses to others.

Media has exposed us

to so much violence that

we have become insensitive.

Tragedy is that this not true.

Humans have clear conscience

because they have none.

They are ' Samdarshi'

Descendant's of 'Tathagatta'

on the verge of 'Nirvana'

beyond pain and pleasure.

Let us be fair to humans.

Rhino have no chance.
