Djinn and Tonic

Shandana Minhas

Djinn and tonic is a collection of pieces by freelance writer Shandana Minhas. Living in Karachi, her newspaper/magazine articles have tended to focus on events, people and situations encountered there. Over time, this has led to her being generally perceived as a Karachi obsessed writer, but she’d like everyone to know that’s strictly not true. Once she went to Kaghan and she wrote about how odd it was there when she came back. And then there was another time she went to Lahore and…well maybe that’s a little doggie best left asleep…

The point is, Shandana’s musings do not aim to champion any one city, culture, gender, religion, caste, creed or playstation edition over any other. It’s always purely accidental. Neither does Shandana think everything is black and white. The view through the grooves and dust specks on her tinted glasses suggest more of a blurry pink. She hopes the collection of articles, stories and poems featured here aptly reflects that by showing there is no absolute (aur choon kay ab Qazi aa raha hai thoray dinnon mein Smirnoff bhi nahin ho ga).
