- Of creativity and perfectionism
One of the primitive traits of our collective mindset is that the unconventional is bad. This is the very enemy of creativity because creativity is about doing things in new ways, about changing approach and perspective. Creative thinking has been oppressed and ignored. And the lack of creativity shows in every domain. Consider, for example, the bulk of both political and commercial advertising.
Another natural human instinct we, as a society, do not like is perfectionism. We don’t strive for the best and are satisfied with our mediocre achievements. For us mediocre is synonymous with moderation (Ait’dal) and thinking big is a sign of (potential) egoism. Most do not have the courage and/or confidence to think big.
We love to stay where we are.
