Optimists tend to expect positive outcomes while pessimists tend to expect negative outcomes. In an uncertain situation there is scope for expectation. When faced with various options the optimist expects the most uncertain/ambiguous option to be the most favourable, other variables being identicle, and the pessimist expects the most uncertain/ambiguous option to be the most unfavourable, other variables being identicle.
This is why daydreamers have an affinity with uncertainty - the option to dream.
