Last month when Florida was hit by a hurricane in Keywest area , all my relatives and friends called me baree baree to ask if we were safe.
Then people from Pakistan called theek 2 am in the morning 3 days after the hurricane came and was gone to make sure we were okay.

so now when the hurricane was clearly going to Lousiana , I heaved a sigh of relief that people would not see ’ Filorida’ in the news and not call me.

my phoophi called me and said...are you guys okay ? I asked in SuRRee hui awaaz , ’ do you know where the hurricane is coming’...she said ..yeah Lousiana. I said ’phir ? ’ ’ we are in Florida’...haaN phir bhi I wanted to make sure you guys are okay.
I said yeah yeah its all a big scare . New Orleans is going to be fine too. infact our weather has become very nice due to katrina in the neighbourhood. If all hurricanes pass us at that distance , atleast the hot summer will be less miserable...
phoophi sounded upset at my callousness.
Then few other ignorant people also called to make sure we were okay.

khair it seems like ’ hurricane’ has become my ’chiRR’...
there used to be a pagul in our neighbourhood whose ChiRR was karaila. all the kids used to chant ’ karaila karaila ’ whenever they would spot him. and he would throw stones at them and give them galyaaN foaming at the mouth.
Then there was this another guy whose chiRR was ’ gunjee budrooh’. He would also chase us around the alley whenever we called him that.
My ChiRR soon is going to become ’hurricane’ now...
