I finally saw Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley. Right in front of me was a gay couple – one man asked the other, “So this is the gay version right where Bingley and Darcy realize they’re made for each other?” LOL! The two of them laughed and went on to other topics but I think they enjoyed the flick more than anyone else in the theatre.

As the movie started, I was a little startled by the sets which weren’t as tidily posh as the earlier versions of the story. Think what Ever After did to the Cinderella tale in terms of set design [except there are no castles here but Pemberley was lovely] – very dark and very grungy but the country dances looked like country dances and made Darcy’d disdain of them more visually explicable, especially after you see his house.

The guy who played Darcy looked a bit too geeky [sigh… nobody beats Colin Firth. NOBODY] for the part and after a while his constipated expression began to remind me of Keanu Reaves and that is never a good thing. Keira was all right but at times she was a little too full of teeth. Scary stuff.

It was worth a watch anyway. But I really, really wanna see Brokeback, although I understand it plays heavily to hetero audiences and as such is alienating gay audiences everywhere who could wish for a little more. Oh well, if this makes it to the mainstream then I think it’s served its purpose. I think it was easier for Lee to make it as he isn’t American. But he must have been aware of the issues he was combating when he made it.

I also got to see Something’s Gotta Give and after a long time I saw a Jack Nicholson movie that made me remember why I liked him so much. It was great to see him and Diane Keaton together and see him make fun of his real life persona. Amanda Peet, whom I can’t adore enough, was also in it. Which you prolly knew already coz this is really dated info but still…

I wrote a paper comparing Robert Frost and William Carlos Williams and got an A on it which really shocks me. How the hell did it happen? I think it was all those years of taking Elaine’s classes – now that’s a teacher who likes to grade tough. Oof. Now onto the thesis.

This is such a chore. I mean I enjoy writing it but dear god in heaven, this write and rewrite thing gets old fast. Why are rewrites so necessary? Sometimes I wish I could write like L and take forever to complete one page and then I won’t have to rewrite chunks the way I usually do coz I write faster than my brain thinks. Well, okay so that’s an exaggeration but still….

But soon, soon, this will be done. This week in fact. I hate it when I have to combine Christmas with all this stuff. Sometimes I think I’m going to go mad, shopping and shipping and meeting deadlines all at the same time. What the hell?!
