28 Crores = 2.8 billion

Tonite at about 7.00 pm PST near clifton, Musharraf will be launching pakistan’s first sea fountain which is deemed to be one of the highest in the world. It cost about 28 crores and is proudly being touted as the achievement of Pakistani govt and the MQM.

This is a perfect example of Andher Nagri and Kanra Raja syndrome. How on earth does this fountain solve any of pakistan’s problems. If we could have spent this 28 crores, and recruited thousands upon thousands of teachers for just the Sindh province, these teachers being the higly skilled abd largely unemployed university graduates currently trying to either escape abroad or work in menial positions. This amount could have paid the running and maintenance for govt. schools in the province for the next ten years. In those ten years, we could have had a generation of educated, empowered and literate generation of lower class students who would have raised the literacy levels right at the bottom. This would have had a direct impact upon countering religious fundamentalism and the some of the social afflictions that we suffer in our masses.

This would have meant that we empower our people. Not give them entertainment to look at a 600 metre high "fowara". The people of karachi must remember that fowara is pissing out their resources and nothing more.

Shame on Musharraf and his MQM contrabands.
