A Modern Pakistan

Posted: Jan 31, 2006 Tue 03:34 pm     Views: 87

So our politicians, our leaders in power, are working hard to undo the negativity around the image of pakistan. May it be the emancipatingly obvious marathon, or a milestone rock concert by a past music legend approaching his sell by date or a 28 crore fowarra.

Nothing however manifests a concrete step forward that impacts the social roots of our great nation. The "improvements" are not just seemingly cosmetic, they are indeed cosmetic. Liberals wail and cry about islamism sweeping the country, blaming a sort of social demnetia that parralleled by some to be a sort of moral plague. Further parallels are drawn to the times of another dictator who was the ultimate need of those times, a Islamic Dictator, obviously not considering that Zia’s repression lead to an outburst of democratic elections of "other" political leaders who came, looted, were booted and then came back for some more loot. That Islamism or the politcal religiosty used by the likes of MMAs are just political channeling of mass discontent towards the order of things.

We have not brought ourselves to understand the rot at the core and are trying to clear the blemishes on the surface and brandishing this short term cosmetic fix as marked achievements.

Take a look at this modern pakistan, If Musharraf fells today in the scheme of things right now, pakistan will be on the brink of a chaotic political disaster.

If things are to truly change and be modern, than we have to start hearing everyone’s side of the argument and stop ramming our own isolated versions of modernity onto the masses.
