We,the wonderful residents of Islamic Republic of Pakistan have this sole responsibility to represent our country’s soft image.We are bound by unwritten word of law,and our President’s tremendous coaxing to follow the path of Enlightened Moderation.What an absolutely fantastic idea,Pakistan will be termed as mini-India with it’s endless doses of Kyunki Saas Bhi Bahu thi,and the likes.Our women will step into this corporate world looking like a second-day bride,and all our fashions will be rip offs from the Hindi soaps.Then,the unthinkable will happen,the west will acknowledge us a peaceful bunch,and stuff our mouths with many many dollars,in the west’s lap will we sit,placated,happily ever after.The peaceful Muslim bunch,who strip their female folks,strip them off their clothes,their honour and their reputaion.We have shining examples of Mukhtaran Mai,Dr.Shazia Khalid,so many nameless and faceless women who are harassed every single day.We are a culturally rich nation.Our seasons revolve around mangoes,cricket,elections and matrimonies.What diverse traditions we endorse.We are also a group of people who love to impose.Men like to impose their intimidating selves especially on women,from a bus driver with his labrynth of mirrors placed at every tiny nook to catch female attention,to the CEO of multinational who would want a presentable secretary to please his aethetics.We grant freedom to exercise religion,yet our minorities are tortured,the torture sometimes exceeds the physical level.As opinionated as I am,for me,our minority also consistutes of individuals who like to display their religious fervour.Women with hijabs are scorned,at all the hip restuarants,malls and we do happen to lack recreational arenas other than these mentioned before. We are as I mentioned earlier,Islamic Republic of Pakistan.To fully realize the impact,we do not boast of any prayer rooms in majority of malls.Infact I was compelled to pray in the premises of bathroom,which was slightly divided from the actual cubicles.Interestingly it is a big slap to our tall claims.Sadly.another resturant standing just next to that mall has none,too.When a staff member was asked about a prayer room,the scribe was led to a relevantly secluded maze of table and chairs,with a proud rooster painted on the wall.The rooster,I can assure you,was definately prouder than myself,at that time. We are a nation of healthy people.We have no physically handicapped people or so it seems.There are hardly any ramps to accomodate those in wheelchairs.Very few amongst the handicapped have the courage and resources to step forward.Their courage is crushed,accolades to our very own Nazims,they’re doing a brilliant job at killing other people’s self -esteem and giving their own selves,lavish ego massages.Remember the many billboards thanking the nazims for the completion of the projects.No I do not want to sound like a thankless person,but isn’t this their job,what are they paid for then? Pakistanis are endowed with streams of patroitism.With our longing for desi food,every time we step on the foreign soils,or our ingrained habit to follow traffic rules there,shows how hard we are trying.The moment we get a green coloured card,we develop spring in our soles.It’s great that we want to help humaity elsewhere,what a humane bunch we are!!!
