To ignore the plight of thousands of women who have been raped and jailed due to the Hudood Ordinance is not just apathy towards Pakistanis but an apathy towards mankind.
A symposium on Hudood Ordinance is being organized by ANAA (Asian American Network Against Abuse) on Saturday, July 8th in Chicago. This is a Pakistani-American group that has been responsible for highlighting the stories of Mukhtaran Mai and other victims that never got justice.
The speakers will be:
1. Shazia Khalid, a doctor by training who became a rape victim and was sent into asylum by the Pakistan Government
2. Justice Majida Rizvi. Justice Majida Rizvi had previously chaired a committee for the Government of Pakistan and had recommended a repeal of Hudood Ordinance.
3. Manzur Ejaz, a columnist for BBC, Daily Times and other publications
Date and time: Satuday, July 8, 2006, 12 p.m.
Location: Hyatt Regency, Regency Ballroom A
151 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL, 60601
Be there to support our people and to learn more about how we can help in getting this unIslamic ordinance repealed!
