Pakistanis were supporting the Taliban long before the Hindus arrived. Sitting on the key transit points and having a 2500 km long porous border Pakis have huge influence in Afghanistan irrespective of what India does. But what have Pakis used their influence for? To support the most regressive brutal ideologically rigid political entities they can find as their allies.
Taliban represents a failure of the Paki imagination and its claims to be a progressive enlightened leader of the Muslim world. It will set back the whole region’s development 20-25 years and another 2 generations of children will grow up illiterate both sides of the Afghan-Pak border. Muslims of the region are choosing a future for themselves, Paki establishment are choosing Afghanis’ future for them and that is what their concepts of self-determination and Islam are all about. So be it. ![]()
