Few years earlier, it required a person to be seriously lucky or connected to get MTNL to attend any problems or requests for existing or new telephones.
With a lot of courage and hesitation, I applied for a Triband connection from MTNL. I had sat back assuming that the connection will not be installed for at least another 2 to 3 months.
But surprise surprise.....4 days after I make the application to my local MTNL office, I have a technician come to my office to install the wiring. He says that after the wiring is installed, he will come again the next day to install and start the telephone line.
Surprise again....the dude shows up the next day and I have my phone line working. For the internet connection he says that he will come again after the 26th Jan holiday (which is 27th Jan, a saturday, 3 days after the phone line starts working) to install the modem and start the internet connection.
Surprise again....the dude shows up at 11.30 am in the morning and installs the modem. He says that his boss will come and configure the internet connection on my laptop.
The boss actually shows up after 1 hour and completes the installation and configuration of the internet connection. He explains me all that I need to know, has a cup of tea with me, we shake hands and he then leaves for his next assignment.
All is fine till it strikes me that I didn’t bribe any one for this. I get all my work done, that too in the promised time and without paying a single paisa as bribe. Couple of years back such a thing from MTNL would have been unthinkable. Even getting a simple thing like enabling STD on your phone took something like eternity and a good amount of bribes.
People can say anything, but things are changing and more importantly its the people who are driving the change here in India.
RTI Rocks.....POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!
