I’m not an Idiot!!!!!

Posted: Feb 1, 2007 Thu 12:46 am     Views: 94

According to the Greek language, and ’idiot’ is a person who does not vote!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idiot

Today we have the municipal polls in Bombay. For most citizens, the elections to the centre and the state are more important. Very few actually vote in the municipal elections. The reason they say is what has the municipality got to do with them???

Hello.....isn’t the municipality responsible for how our city looks and functions. Whether the city floods during the rains, or stays clear or how the roads hold up, maintainence of our parks, correct usage of open spaces etc are all determined by the municipality.

To be fair, I my self had this attitude. Why should I vote. Afterall politics is so bad in India. I did not want to be a part of this stuff. Fair enough.

My cousin then advised me that if didn’t want to vote, it was ok. No one can stop me from not voting. However, he advised that I should at least register a protest vote. After all the right to protest is a fundamental right given and guaranteed by the constitution of India.

All said and done, I had made up my mind to vote. So after I completed my running in the morning, I went straight to the polling station and cast my ballot. Not a protest, but I voted for the party who I thought would make me proud of my city.

And I can proudly say - I AM NOT AN IDIOT!!!!!

Rgds,

Devkant.
