Altaf or Sarfraz?

Posted: Jun 1, 2007 Fri 03:21 am     Views: 167

If there was any doubt of a consipracy being hatched against the MQM and the party was unaware that it was being ‘played with’ by the intelligence agencies they were dispelled on May 12, 2007 as the party embraced its terrorist/mob mentality. Many saw it as political suicide but perhaps somewhere there was an iota of a chance that the MQM was making a well-calculated politically deft move to stave off political opposition in the future.

But now comes this news report in Dawn (June 1, 2007):
"Sarfraz gives MQM chief ‘evidence’ against Imran

…According to a press release issued by MQM’s information wing, Mr Nawaz remained with Mr Altaf Hussain for five hours in the party’s International Secretariat during which the former fast bowler exchanged views on the prevailing political situation in the country…"

It’s hard to believe how the MQM, a supposedly well-knit, highly organized, dedicated party can so easily turn into a clown, a laughing stock. In Pakistan’s entire history, I cannot fathom a bigger joker than Sarfraz Nawaz. His cricketing sense may have some diminshing value, but stupidity, obnoxious statement and most of all brazen lies are his selling point - a darling of yellow page journalism - which is the only place he belongs. Everyone knows this. It’s so obvious that his ‘victims’ prefer to ignore him rather than try to ‘clear their name’ of the charges he desperately concots. Why give a man desperate for attention the chance to be in the limelight? Because everyone knows, when Sarfraz opens his mouth on TV, it’s lies that will come out. You can do two things: 1) switch the channel or 2) laugh your head off and then change the channel.

Altaf wants to retaliate against Imran Khan. Banning him from Sindh and attacking his playboy lifestyle proved counterproductive and backfired. Members joining Tehreek-e-Insaf, normally an embarassing trickle at best have turned into a somewhat respectable sprinkle. Now Altaf is attempting to find a way to target Chairman Khan’s most valuable asset - his integrity.

There are 7 billion people to choose from for help in this regard. He chose Sarfraz Nawaz’s testimony - hearing him out for 5 hours! MQM has already committed political suicide. As he progressively takes MQM down the drain, is Altaf now trying to become a bigger laughing stock than Sarfraz Nawaz?
