Swimming at midnight

Posted: Jun 15, 2007 Fri 01:49 am     Views: 283

Yesterday was a lethargic day. Woke up at 11:00 a.m. Had breakfast at 11:30. Lunch at 12:30. Then sat down to work, hoping to make some progress. Zero progress. In the early evening, sat outside with 4 colleagues, indulging in idle chat about trivial events. Even smoked a cigarette. Then ordered dinner, several different dishes, from a local eatery. Dinner arrived at friend’s place at 8:30 p.m. All of us sat together at the dinner table. A colleague accidentally spilled one dish on the carpet. It was the most sought after dish at the table. What a loss! A few jokes flew. But the culprit ate the rest of his dinner in silence.

Resumed work. Zero progress, again. It is moments like these that bring out the existential perspective in you. You say to yourself: ok, I am not making any progress. Yes its devastating. But in the end we all die anyway.

Sharp at midnight, a colleague dropped by. He was going to the swimming pool. I followed. A few other followed too. One by one everyone jumped into water. Waded around for an hour. Chatted some more.

Hit the bed at 2:30 a.m. Warm and soft bedsheets felt really nice.
