i read this comment in a magazine that the writings by the present generation are increasingly becoming cynical...be it poetry or prose...the element of hope lacks in the writings.

i thought about it and tried to read the writings keeping in mind the comment and found that the comment wasnt wrong afterall, the element of negativity definitely prevails..

but i guess we need to make a distinction as to what cynical is...i dont think writings are cynical..yes the negativity, the gloom may seem a dominant element of these writings but i still feel that element of or atleast a hope for a ray of light isnt missing...

i think it is realism..the glorification of things as it is found in the literature of past...in urdu poetry for instance are increasingly lessening from the contemporary literature but it doesnt mean that it has devoid literature from presenting hope. on the other hand i think it has paved a way for realistic writing....

cynicism is ignorance presented as intelligence.

It is the angst of an immature person that has hit puberty and is ridden with pimples and pubic growth.

It is the bitterness of the mid-aged dreamers who dreamt much but did little.

It is the anger of the old that sit at death's door, looking at the world with a biased eye, and claiming "its the same old shit everyday"

Optimism, now that is spiritual, and intelligent. Chicken soup type stuff...does not count.

thinkingstorm and tazeen

@thinkingstorm,

humor is obviously better than cynicism but point over here is serious writing or literature these days seem to be less sugar coated and more realist which for some is cynicsm and i think its not rather it is realism...

@tazeen

yea i agree that it is nice that people are waking up to the reality....

what gloom?

I for one believe in love (with a bit of anger when necessary). Humor is better than cynicism.

Cyncism is a cancer for the soul. :-(

but cynical is good, give me cynical any day instead of sugar coated stuff. Sugar coated and overtly optimistic writing is usually puke inducing, thank God people are finally growing up

Yes, the gloom prevails and can be evidenced from the writings of this very interactor in particular..lols...but as writing to some is all about the conversion of the signals one gets from the society one dwells, it might seem cynicm to some but to others it might be the pure representation of the state of the affairs outside.
