Quo Vadis?

Posted: Oct 19, 2007 Fri 08:36 am     Views: 240    Interacts: 0

So the bugle has sounded, leaving more than hundred dead and wounded on a dark Karachi street. The images are still being flashed across the world sending a chill down the viewers spine. I saw a man whose legs must have been turned to pulp raise the upper half of his body and wave his arm weakly. Was he asking for help? Or was he cheering an invisible army, behind the TV camera, to wage war on the 'enemy'.

But where would the army go? Who is the 'enemy'? Who is this army's 'leader'?

I hope, against hope, that Pakistanis realize that their enemy is that crumbling institution which provides unprecedented power to a very few. I hope, against hope, that Pakistanis will refuse to follow and cheer these few who are dying to lead them to a war where brothers will stand ready to kill brothers without asking any question. I hope, against hope, that the movement for democracy is not quashed under the feet of marching armies. I hope, against hope, that democrats will not line up behind BB and the army.

So, where are you going my friends?
