Econmics on the Downtown 4

4 train going downtown..a young man of around 16 gets on and says "Candy..starburst, M&Ms, Skittles...One Dollar. Ladies and Gentlemen, I am selling Candy to buy uniform for my basketball team"

I look up and can't believe the kid is lying. He is 5'6" tall at best..a little pudgy to boot. There is no way he is on a basketball team.

Me: "Yo Kid, where do you play"
Kid: "err..highschool"
Me: "which highschool?"
Kid: "Rice"
Me: "in the Bronx?"
Kid: "yeah.."
Me: "why are you selling candy here if your school is in the Bronx? And aren't uniforms provided by the school?"
Kid: "you gonna buy Candy or not?"
Me: "you don;t play ball at all..do you?"
Kid (lookign around with a sheepish grin):.."anyone want Candy..One Dollar..Starburst, M&M's Skittles"
Me: "tell ya what kid..I will give you 10 bucks and will take no candy, if you tell me the truth"
Kid: "get out of here man..you crazy"
Me: "I am serious...10 bucks..tell me the truth"
Kid: " aight man..I don;t play ball..just trying to make some cash"
Me: "why not just say so?"
Kid: "I know..but..em.."
Me: "Let me give you a lesson in Economics, you are selling a product and asking for value for that product. That is enough...Most people woudl buy the product, because they want it..regardless of the reason why you are selling it"

Kid: "I know man.."
Me: " just say you are selling candy for one dollar..people will still buy it and you won;t have to lie"
Kid: "aight man..."
Me; "take Care"
Kid: "you got that ten dollars"
