I was at Park Towers yesterday when I noticed this strange phenomenon that I was the only one in Liberty Books and the only one for a strange long hour.
The whole world was out there buzzing. Eating, drinking, window shopping but not many ventured in a book store.
Alas some woman came in but her goal was trashy magazines.
Its really a shame that we are going so far away from the printed word.
I have neices and nephews who fail to read a book for a whole year. Things were not this bad. When I was in HS which was just about 8 years ago we were kind to books if not obsessed by them.
It will sound very outdated if I say "counrties that dont read dont progress" but iam afraid that is true. Our minds will remain myopic and our vocabularies stunted.
In Taipei the most popular culture is book stores and there is an amazing book store which is open 24 hrs and it runs into a loss every year but the govt foots its bills. Thats what you call quest for knowledge!
Ok enuff said get up and open a book!!
