Discipline of 'Protests' and 'freedom of Expression'

Posted: Nov 26, 2007 Mon 08:55 am     Views: 237    Interacts: 0

I read 'Kolkata on fire' which reminded me so much of Karachi strikes. It seemed that I was reading a reportage of Karachi. Probably masses belonging to third world developing countries have yet to learn alot about art of showing peacful protests. May be a reason is that we belong to highly emotional class of humans who just don't know how to keep their sentiments checked. Having said so I think "liberals" and the "advocators of freedom of expressions" do need to learn the dignified ways of expressions and should not completely unleash their skills of higehst form of expressions also.
For a devour and uncivilzed Muslim it is becoming more and more challenging to control their emotions when every now and then a liberal writer, artist or cartoonist just simply abuse their art and provoke them by being disrepectful to their sacred things/beings. Now its very easy to punish muslims and label them as extremists and fanatics after slashing their religious passions.
In my humble opinion if there are any guidelines for dignified way of showing contempt there should be certain boundary or limitation set for "freedom of expression" too.
I mean I am not for the "Absolute freedom" of any kind for sure. World is full of different races believing various ideologies speaking many languages and this diversity would become the source of beauty in the world only if we try not to hurt by being direpectful to any minor or major group of humans. After all as they say"Your liberty ends there from where my nose starts" or something like it.
The most educated class of people when go beyond their limits in the name of freedom of expression and just for the sake of excercising their artistry, their flight of imagination the deadly the world becomes at that very moment. I think the responsibility lies on all educated civilised humans to respect other's religion , philosphies, believes, faith, languages, race or class.
Being a Muslim I want to address my Muslim brothers and sisters please remember that whatever any one does or say to our faith we should be dignified and graceful enough to forgive them knowing that "they dont know what they are saying or doing".We should follow the path of Holy Prophet(PBUH) who never adopted violence against 'Kaafirs' who used to throw trash on him, ridiculed him, stonned him and
were cruel to him.
Alhumdollilah in these hostile times one had never heard of any Muslim sacrileging others faith in the name of "freedom of expression". Whatever violence we are witnessing from Muslims is due to the fact that we are the most hurt, most targeted, most triggered, most oppressed, most punished and thus most violent religious community on planet(excluding the wealthy puppet Muslim rulers)which incidently comprises of major chunk of world's population.
At the end would 'KKK'or 'ShiveSenna' kindof parties would have taken any other road of showing contempt had there been attack on their faith. How secular the west claims they are or any other country they have their 'push buttons'/'flammable zones'.
Please! our Earth is already facing hostilities from forces of nature we donot need any more from enlightened cultured humans in the name of freedom of expression and certainly we do need to discipline ourselves in manner of 'Expressions' protest or otherwise.
