I respect the Holy Prophet (PBUH), but ...

{"Salim, even for a self proclaimed liberal, you firmly believe in sanctity of Quaran and your prophet. Nothing can be wrong with Quaran or Islam and nothing can be wrong with PBUH. Their names and identity are sacrosanct. How do you expect the conservatives to react any differently?"}

Mr. Cobray Date

Yes, the Holy Koran and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) are sacred to ME. But that does not mean that I have to force others to consider them sacred. If they are so fragile that the nonsenscial rhetoric or stupid cartoons or mediocre books or insidious movies can so easily cause Muslims to lose control over their own emotions, then maybe the beliefs of these so-called "Muslims" really need to be ridiculed, exposed, humiliated, questioned, and exploited. *-)

{"Because those who are angry, brutal and violent are the one's in most pain"}

Nikhat,
Very thoughtful and logical statement. :)

I do not encourage people to defame or insult others' beliefs, religions, sacred cows, or holy symbols. I am merely suggesting that showing disproportionate rage at such asinine behavior just feeds the frenzy of those intent on causing such reaction. Ignore them and they will tire and move on to throwing peanuts at elephants in the zoo and getting pissed on in return. Thanks.

True one can't force/demand others to be respectful to one's religious sentiments or any other beliefs, but please!! Do not urge others also to leave their decency, sanity and kindness in the name of so called 'freedom of expression'. After all what is more important to you, to hurt, to be cruel, to humiliate, to disgrace and to exploit other humans or to show some civility to make this world a better place?
By the way I too condemn the abhoring reaction that few Muslims of Khartoom displayed. Actually one should completely abolish this law of 'Blasphemy' from the face of earth is what I think. In doing so the people will learn to be more tolerant. Then they wont be exploited by some malacious cleriks/politicians. Gradually man will understand that whatever any one say or do which is in any way disgraceful or hurtful to one's sacred beliefs, is solely his 'flight of imagination'and in no way could bring disgrace upon the divine holy, prestigious and honorable Prophets, freedom fighters, reformers, philosphers, leaders or philanthropists. They will learn that the best way to show their anger and contempt is by being brave;by being more kind, more graceful, more respectful to those who are ignorant and unkind towards other's feelings. Because those who are angry, brutal and violent are the one's in most pain.
