#109 Eklavya Sahib,
I do have a point of view and it's not necessarily based on a Muslim perspective, but rather on a humanitarian Hindustani agenda. I like the earlier Mughals for the same reason I admire the Nehrus for the same reason that I don't support Jinnah Sahib. I love Hindustan without the caste system, without the cruelty and irrationality of Sharia Law, without the inequities of our class system and how we treat our own poor people and how we kiss the ass of those who debauched our people, barred us from our own cities and parks, and made sure they were served their scotch, pork, beef, and ham in the proper manner by worshipping swarthy servants. ...and some people still see India vs Pakistan, Muslim vs Hindu, Delhi vs. Islamabad. :(

As a much hounded and maligned liberal, feminist mullah, I should be the last one to question your brand of Islam. If you have your own faith in Allah and your heart and mind are content with your beliefs and actions, then more power to you, my brother. (T)
Please understand that, as far as worldly Islam is concerned, almost all rules, practices, and interference are there for the protection, nurturing, and successful raising of children - almost nothing else is given more importance other than the obvious worship of God. That is exactly why you will find some well-intentioned people butting in where, possibly, they don't belong.
My only advice, should you care to consider it, is to use discretion and not be so blatant in poking people in the eye about your freedom to poke others as you please.
Do you realize that the issue of same same prem and same same prem marriage may have cost us Democrats the presidential election in 2004?
We can agree or disagree, but as you demanded, we must treat each other with respect and dignity. Peace, my brother. (T)

{"Saudis allow Men and Women to mingle in Mecca (that is true Islam) but does not allow women to drive (not true Islam) so do the Saudis know Islam or not? And since Indian fundamentalists who decry women entering Mosques, don't know Islam..but they allow women to drive..hence they do know Islam..when these Muslims meet Saudi Muslims, whose Islam is greater?
Islam ka tau patta nahi, leykin Musulmaan zarror chutiye hain."}
Stukay,
Finally you are finding the subtle differences between a LaWhore and a Singapore. While both are cities, that's where the similarities end. One functions like a slick and well-oiled machine the other is best termed a randomly sick engine coughing black smoke and burning oil.
So, Soodis allow mixing of Haj Tourists and Turistas - would you believe that they wear just one loose garment and nothing else - almost like a gigantic toga party from The Animal House. They don't allow driving, because female drivers would drive up the insurance rates and accident statistics in that country.
Now, let's get to India. If you allowed women to go into mosques, then judging from the Indians' business acumen, there would be dhandha in the mandha - and we can't have that.
As to allowing women to drive in India, considering the Blue Devils, rampant cows, stray dogs, parsis in heat (using umbrellas to ward off the rays), restricted lanes for Bra Men only, and an anemmic looking traffic control cop, does it really matter if a few Muslim women take to the wheel? It doesn't matter, besides who is going to buy them cars in the first place?

Dear Steamed Chowk Staff,
Not that it is a common problem for most established Front Page (FP) luminaries, but I must ask a personal question - actually it's for my friend.
What is the exact procedure for submitting a FP article for publication by someone who is temporarily in Chowk's Principal's office?
I realize that you don't encounter this question from established authors like Nadeem Paracha (not that he has ever written a vulgar word in his life) or Farzana Versey, the Goddess of all that's good for publication.
My friend will appreciate a prompt response from you.
Thank you very much,
Sincerely yours,
Salim Ahmed Chauhan
Dear Rani,
You have, of course, presented Shore Sahib, a loyal Lahori, with one of several possibly Hial alternatives. Others are:
An early morning dip in the Ravi in December.
Admiring the Minaar-e-Pakistan from afar without actually trying to climb it.
Attending prayers in the Badshahi Mosque lined up with and behind unsuspecting momin lads.
Start going to Hiram Andy for gradually more interesting evenings with the inhabitants
Waiting for Jesus Christ to arrive in SaRinagar and announce an amendment making homosexual love a kosher act
Sorry, but I have been spending some quality time in the Chowk Principal’s office and could not join you in some very interesting and informative discussions. Yes, I have followed with much approval, disinterest, and anger your individual contributions to the four pressing issues afflicting Muslim thought nowadays:
1. Murder of young Muslim teenager in Mississauga, Canada over hijab issue - Barbaadi, Dillidost
2. Ms. Sana Mirza's problems with masjid restraining order - Sadna, Dillidost
3. Lashes for the rape victim in Soodi Arabia – Cliffy Sweety, Barbaadi
4. Homosexuality and Islam - Shore Sahib, Atif, Barbaadi, Majumdar, Dotty, Ali, Cliffy Sweety, Jang, Number Bhayya
Before I get started, please join me in a moment of silence for the departed soul of Maulana Clift.alim Marhoom.
.
waqfa al khamsa minutyoon
.
Now let me address each of you and please don't prejudge me from my nomme de plume.
1. The murder of the young teenager in Toronto's Muslim ghetto of Mississauga is sad, lamentable, horrible, and of course criminal. It should not be directly related to Islam, wearing the hijab, or cultural idiocy. It appears to be a simple crime of rebellious teenager and violently stupid father and obedient but moronic brother. Simple! I often wonder why the speeding train of Islam must always come to a stop at the stations of sex, female independence, and display of flesh - which of course is closely related to the first two?
Conclusion: Cliffy and Barbaadi are right in being indignant over the senseless, useless, and horrible loss of a precious human life because of the violent lapse of mental capacity by a man, who happens to be a Muslim, a Paki, AND a cabdriver. Not that the three are necessarily mandatory qualifiers of stupid behavior.
Barbaadi is definitely wrong in trying to bracket Islam within the narrow confines of mandatory wearing of hijabs and Muslim men's addiction to controlling the will of their female relatives. This is where Cliffy is different. She recognizes the horrible result, but does not use it as a platform (a Hyde Park stand) to bash ALL Muslim men.
Abusive fathers, violent brothers, and rebellious teenagers are not limited to Muslims. Perhaps when Muslims in the West assimilate better, allow their girls to date, go to clubs, shack up with abusive and drunken boyfriends, go through three or four abusive marriages each, and start showing up on the Jerry Springer Show, we will be accepted as ordinary human beings instead of some insidious, foreign, weird, and religious menace.
2. Ms Sana Mirza's unfortunate issue of not being allowed on the premises or even the external grounds of the mosque in question falls in the stupid category. When will the stupid administrations of remote and irrelevant "Islamic" institutions stop making asinine decisions and then pretending to speak for all of Islam?
Conclusion: No, Sadna, this issue is not as important as the one in Ayodhya for the right-wing Hindu BJP/RSS/VHP/JS/BD/SS goons to demolish the sad edifice. Sana should be allowed to visit and even photograph in and around any public building - AS LONG AS SHE OBTAINS THE NECESSARY PEMITS PERTAINING TO PUBLIC SAFETY, HEALTH, TAXATION, AND DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS.
Just as a side note, I was accompanying three female relatives to the Delhi Jama Masjid. We were denied entry because it was the policy of the Eye Maam Book Hairy that no females are allowed inside the mosque past sundown. Being the historian that I claim to be, I made some rather stupid speech about recollecting that the mosque belonged to the great Rajput Maharaja Shah Jahan and not to some two-bit Eye Maam. All of my factual claims and sincere protestations refused to impress the mosque vigilantes.
Incensed at this puzzling edict, I decided not to visit the famous mosque and regret having made that courageous decision. Upon later reflection it occurred to me that possibly there may have been a shortage of affordable hotel rooms in Delhi and some people turned to God in emergency situations - who can blame them?
3. The case of the poor Shia girl in Soodi Arabia being given increasingly severe punishments after being raped is a no-brainer. I agree with everyone's indignation at this misapplication of "laws" to reinforce the Soodi way of life.
Conclusion: While I agree with Barbaadi's anger, this is not a religious issue, other than the obvious persecution of poor Shias by Wahaboobis in Soodi Arabia. Furthermore, it is an authoritarian suppression of the human rights of protest, appeal, and indignation. This is almost as bad as the total loss of individual liberties in that den of persecution - Guantanamo Base in Cuba.
4. The issue of Islam and homosexuality was passionately and analytically argued by many Chowkies, but more prominently by Shore Sahib, Safwaan Sahib, and Atif. Shore Sahib convinced us that he is a God-fearing and observant Muslim. Atif made some compelling points about Islam (really the Old Testament with the story of Lot and his family) forbade homosexual behavior. Others congratulated Shore Sahib for his openness and courage. Some even nominated him for Mufti of Lahore.
Conclusion: Atif, you have a good point about Islam not allowing homosexual behavior. It is backed up by the example of Lot from the Holy Koran and the Old Testament. Where you missed the boat is the fact that you did not consider the Holy Prophet's (PBUH) emphasis on compassion. We all know, in this modern age, that homosexuality is an anomaly, possibly of the genes (and usually of the jeans, too). The afflicted ones can't help themselves because they have a programmed addiction to this aberration of sexual desire. We need to treat homosexuality just as we treat alcoholism - by counseling and compassion, but not by providing free booze.
So, Shore Sahib, did you hear that? No free booze for you. If you are truly a God-fearing Muslim, but you can't help your desires, the correct solution would be to NOT GIVE IN TO YOUR DESIRES. Of course, this is not the Democratic-party endorsed, liberal line, but it is a pretty darned good liberal Islamic approach. Perhaps you might want to pay attention to it.
In other words, just because we have excessive or unnatural desires does not mean that we need to give in to them. For example, for a long time I wondered what a ham and cheese sandwich would taste like. Many of my American friends always had them for a quick lunch, but I resisted the temptation. Later on, when I discovered turkey ham, one of my first acts after saying "Eureka" was to construct a ham 'n cheese sambitch. It was good, AND Hilal. Moral of the story, sir, is to say no to the sausage until you find an approved version of the delicacy.

No, it's not from Neem Boo or even Scout(new), no it's not from Ass Lame, or anyone you would normally expect to be abusive, explicity vulgar, or pusillanimously profane.
This one is from ShoreSahib, yes our own civilized, polished, and accomplished Chowkie. Unfortunately, in his zest to support Neem Boo, he crossed the line by posting the most vulgar and profane post ever posted on Chowk:

Zeemax's head would make a nice beheaded trophy.
Neembu,
Will you cut off his head and put him out of his misery!
While some people find sexual remarks, gaali galoch, and references to family, friends, and relatives as vulgar, many of us find beheading, raping, mutilating, murder, and violence to be even more vulgar, profane, and abusive.
Shore Sahib,
Aap se iss behudigi or zalim fitrat ki ummeed na thi. Bohot his afsos hua aapka yeh pehloo dekh kar. Khuda aap ko maaf karey.
