there is a wave of being “born Now a days again Muslims” we find it very common now a days a phenomenon of some body among our acquaintances becoming “muzhabi” growing beard (in case of male) or wearing hijab (obviously in case of women), wearing shalwar above the ankles (again for men) and issuing “fatewas” on every thing from food to professions and personalities. These people are being touted as the reformed ones and one that is now the torch bearer of the Islamic renaissance.
Well I do not have any problem with any of this trend; my only problem is the motive behind any such move. What ever I have observed in these types of “cases” is the fakeness behind the façade. People have now started treating religion as a tool for the self projection; it has been assumed that by just changing your physical out look you be considered as a pious human being and naturally being the trusted ones.
Unfortunately these stereo types are causing bad press the Muslims in general, the test case is the famous Cricketer Mohammad Yousuf who has converted to Islam and since then is busy propagating his beliefs to all and sundry. Some time back he has signed a contract with ICL (Indian entity) which requires him to appear in the matches organized by them. He has taken quiet a hefty amount from the organizers as advance but recently he has a change of heart and decided to quit the contract. This change of decision requires him to payback that amount to the ICL (a very normal business arrangement) but the guy has refused to do it and is avoiding the issue resulting in aggrieved party going to court. I really can’t understand how a person who claims to be a good Muslim could simply flaunt the basic principal of Islam (honesty) and still going on propagating the very religion openly.
The problem here is what I have mentioned earlier that for most of us the portrait of a true Muslim is just the medieval make over of ones attire and nothing else.
