MUMBAI: The BMC, for the first time, will assess Mumbai's groundwater situation and its availability.
The BMC move comes at a time when the city faces a water crunch owing to a sluggish monsoon.
A team of experts from Pune's Ground Water Surveys and Development Agency will arrive next week to conduct a study,
especially in the coastal parts of the city, which have little or no groundwater.
The city has around 6,000 borewells, most of which are defunct, 5,387 wells and 6,957 tubewells, most needing urgent repairs.
