A Jain Temple in Gujranwala

Posted: Aug 3, 2008 Sun 09:26 pm     Views: 265    Interacts: 4

Saw a report on Aaj TV about a historic temple of the Jains, that is situated in Sabzi Mandi Gujranwala. The temple is very significant for the Jains, and every year pilgrims come to visit it.

The shocking part was that there is a police station right inside the temple. One of the rooms that holds a lot of religious significance happens to be the office of the SHO. The pilgrims it is said, sit outside the office of the SHO to prey!

This is completely ridiculous, given the respect that we demand for masjids, this thana should be immediately shifted and this particular site restored for the visiting Jains.

What amazes me is that I have never heard the Jains protest about it. If it was a pilgrimage worthy site for the Muslims, I am sure it would have been a big deal. And it is this particular fact that makes us hypocrites.

I share your concern and appeal that the sanctity of the place be restored.

Adam Khan sahib,

What amazes me is that I have never heard the Jains protest about it.

That is prolly 'cos there are no Jains in Pak. And (unlike Sikhs) most of the Jain teerth sthals in subcontinental India are in Bihar, Raj, Gujarat so few Indian Jains go on teerth yatra to Pak.

Nonetheless, if it is a heritage building Pak shud investigate the possibility of preserving and popularising it is a cultural attraction.

Btw, your concern for Pak minorities on is very heartwarming. You seem to be a true Jinnahite, sir!

God bless.

Regards
