Sleeping People of Awakened City

Posted: Oct 24, 2008 Fri 06:28 am     Views: 231    Interacts: 4

It was the Saturday night of the chilly month of December. I was standing on the roof of my house and enjoying the harshness of the weather. This phrase might sound strange, “enjoying the harshness but true to a certain extent. We have become immune. We tend to be more acceptable towards the abrasive and harsh environment. The house stood in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of the commercial area. The crowded shops showed the anticipation of the people to spend their weekend in the best possible manner. Massive billboards showcasing larger than life picture of everything were fixed at different places. Thousands of megawatts illuminated those billboards. The blinding flash of cars’ headlights, followed instantly by loud rock music being played in a nearby CD shop, orchestrated the sight. People were pouring into the shops, displaying dresses with flamboyant colors and designs. My cousin faintly murmured in my ear, “This city never sleeps. I silently smiled at the notion. The reason was not what she said but I saw the juxtaposition of situations. This doesn’t seem to be the same Pakistan which is going through the critical energy and economic crisis. This doesn’t seem to be the nation victimized by the growing ferocity of terrorists and attacks of the American forces. We are still satisfied in our cozy houses because we are safe yet. We still think that everything would be OK one day. We are the sleeping people of awakened city.

Thank you!!!! for appreciating and understanding...well said!!
I am not against the peoples' way of living. I am no one to point out them but i am against the immunity and insensitivity towards our social issues.

This article is very good and a true depiction of our society. This shows that how senseless we are.At tis critical situation of pakistan we should not spend our time by watching indian movies instead we should come together to save our country for which our ancestors had sacrificed their lives.Specially our youth should come forward to improve the present condition. Otherwise we will remain in the condition of enjoying the harshness. It is rightly said"the condition of a nation cant be changed unless that nation tried herself.
