Literature and .Society

The news that, "Parveen Shakir and Munir Niazi: Death anniversaries of legendary poets go unnoticed," in Daily Times ,speaks of the fact how much Pakistani society is fond of its writers or poets.

You do not come accross many people who are in habit of book-reading nor do you see pepole heading to public libraries more often unlesss they are students and have to do so out of necessity! Similarly childern are not encouraged to read and no significant effort is made to inculcate reading habits among them.Consequently,we have a society where literature dies along with poets or writers. A society that is so oblivious to the value of literature is not only callous but also doomed to failure in many ways. There is no doubt as to how much importance 'Knowledge' has in progress of any nation. A place where literature can not thrive ignorace resides!

I really like your point of view on the aspect. We sure need a literary magazine to keep track of literary activities. However i also belief that literature and love for literature has much to do with social infastructure. In Pakistan where common people are suffering and struggling for basic necessities it is really hard for literature to get any significant recognition!
And yes you are right to notice that when 'data and information' become knowledge we have quack literature and not the 'real literature'!

A society where knowledge does not get recognized and value why any one would spend his or her time to acquire.

And many more go unnoticed. Is anyone keeping the count? Is there a literary magazine worth of its name around who keeps tab on these things.
When data and information become ‘knowledge’, and by reveling in it people think they turn into ‘literary’ type. They bother not to know the real literature, poetry and arts—and know not the heart of those who create literature and they honour them not. When this happens, then rot has set in the society. Like mouldy spores, the rot will keep spreading, unless some one is doing some cleansing. But who holds the scraper and broom?
