Why our grandparents were happier

OPIUM FOR NEW BORNS-I'm sure this would make them sleep well (not only the Opium, but 46% alcohol!)

Very popular for children in 1885. Not only did they relieve the pain, they made the children happy! COCAINE DROPS FOR TOOTH ACHE

COCAINE TABLETS-1900-All stage actors, singers teachers andpreachers had to have them for a maximum performance. Great to "smooth" the voice.

OPIUM FOR ASTHMA

A paper weight promoting C.F. Boehringer & Soehne ( Mannheim , Germany ).. They were proud of being the biggest producers in the world of products containing Quinine and Cocaine.

Mariani wine (1875) was the most famous Coca wine of it's time. Pope Leo XIII used to carry one bottle with him all the time. He awarded Angelo Mariani (the producer) with a Vatican gold medal.

Coca Wine, anyone?Metcalf Coca Wine was one of a huge variety of wines with cocaine on the market. Everybody used to say that it would make you happy and it would also work as a medicinal treatment.

Produced by Maltine Manufacturing Company of NewYork. It was suggested that you should take a full glass with or after every meal... Children should take half a glass.

Bayers Heroin

A bottle of Bayer's heroin. Between 1890 and 1910 heroin was sold as a non-addictive substitute for morphine. It was also used to treat children with strong cough.

No wonder they were called The Good Old Days!!
BRING THEM BACK, BY ALL MEANS!

intoxication can be chemical or psychological.moral intoxication can be equally effective.intoxication by physical methods is the most favoured though.however anything can chemically arouse a human being starting from actual intoxicants, motivation, music, graphics anything.

opium was major source of british revenue in india and britishers made much profit out of it.the two opium wars against china waged with india as base of troops were for this purpose.

basically the intoxicants discussed here were outlawed when states saw that these interfered with the states functions.

as a man who does not believe in the state i hold the view that the state is a conspiracy against all that is human.it has plus points also though but frankly i dont like the concept of state.

Agha saheb
Wonderful collection of remedies up there. What happened to these drugs? Why they could not sell with caution labels like cigarettes? Who profits by keeping them illegal? Acid was the experimental drug. Mushrooms have always provided great creative vision to some users and ecstasy is the cheap club-drug these days. CIA and ISI have been accused of involvement in drug business in the past. The whole drug business certainly deserves an elaborate treatment.

its a fact that heroin was introduced as a normal drug by bayer.

the use of opium, alchohol etc by poets and writers is well known.

all that is stated is in a light vein but all these drugs were used as normal medicines for certain periods in history.

Is this for real?

Talk about change in what is acceptable by the society. Apparantly after taking opium and cocaine drops, the kids still managed to grow up just fine.
