It’s A Crazy, Crazy World…….

Posted: Sep 25, 2009 Fri 03:05 am     Views: 155    Interacts: 0

This is a rambling piece of writing…….

I have just been following the case against Zazi and some of the other ongoing cases since 2001. Two questions come to my mind:

1. If these people are innocent, what is their future? They have been presumed Guilty until found Innocent. Even though they may be found innocent, they could still end up living under a shadow.
2. If these people are guilty, what has made them so desperate as to take such measures? Why would anyone not want to live peacefully? We need to learn this answer in order to ensure our future generations can live in a world of peace.

It is tough being a Muslim in today’s world – no doubt about it. Simply acknowledging the fact that you are a Muslim opens you up to all sorts of suspicions.

However, instead of looking to fault everybody else, we should first try to rectify our own faults as Muslims. As somebody who likes to keep up with events, I am subscribed to a lot of mailing lists and visit a lot of websites. I also like to do voluntary work, although for personal reasons I had to stop this for a while, but hoping to start again.

Some of the information you see out there really shocks you. You come cross Islamophobes who really, REALLY hate Islam. You also come across people who cling to a concept of Islam that makes no sense - extremist, strange, incomprehensible.

How do you change the views of both these groups.? Dialogue. Education. Awareness.

There have been times when I have visited a link time and again, or been on a mailing list for a long time, until one day I find it spewing out propaganda – either anti-Western or anti-Islamic. And then I am in a quandary – should I keep visiting the site or keep subscribing to the mailing list to find out exactly what they are saying, or should I stop because I do not agree with them?

In the end normally I decide to keep visiting. Otherwise, how can you disagree with something and convince others unless you know what they are saying in the first place?

The same is the issue with volunteering. Which organization to volunteer for? I remember having emailed on organization to become a volunteer with them a few years back – I just saw on their website some views that I don’t agree with. I am glad that volunteering opportunity never materialized, but I am now left with a bad taste in my mouth!

Who can you trust? This is exactly the same issue that Muslims have with charities now. Which charities can you trust?

Ah, it’s a crazy, crazy world……
