Seasoned actor and director Syed Kamal died on Thursday at a private hospital in Karachi. He was 79. Kamal grew to prominence in the ‘60s and ruled over Pakistan’s film industry till ‘70s. He also performed in various television plays. He was called ‘Raj Kapoor of Pakistan’ because of his striking resemblance to the top Indian actor.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the demise of renowned film and TV artist Syed Kamal. In a message to the family the Prime Minister eulogised the great services of the actor for the improvement of the film sector of the country and for setting high standards of performance.
The prime minister said the versatile actor exhibited his great capabilities in direction, script and acting and served as a training institution for the young actors. He said in his death, the country has lost a great asset.
He prayed to Almighty Allah for showering his blessings on the departed soul and for courage to the family to bear this loss with equanimity.
