There is no ranja today, nor is there heer
nor sohni nor mahiwaal is there today
still many like them are in love today.
They do not sit on the piles of dirt
nor do they play their flutes
still lovers they are in their hearts today.
If somehow God wanted me to see my lover
then why so long and dark are the nights.
I have now the same old malady that
burns lovers to ashes,
moment by moment my life passes
but my heart still cries for love.
