The schools and all other educational institutions have closed down, nationwide.

What next?

I mean does anyone know where are we heading? who is steering us? and steering us to what godforsaken future? Where are WE? No, please! No US and India bashing here! Please. For once lets stop trying to find a shoulder on which we could place the weight of our own negligence!
I feel heart broken and stabbed. This is no more a war between two armed forces. Its turning into a war of HORRENDOUS proportions. Its not along the borders or tribal areas any more. Its into the cities and now within educational institutes!

These minors of ours, what are we doing to their ideology of life, of religion, of faith, of mutual respect and honour of other humans? Anyone, from anywhere could pounce over a child taking lessons of hifz e Quran, and blow himself up after shouting' Allah o akbar'.
Its no more the regard of His message and His name that is in question, it is the basic disrespect for anything alive that has begun terrorizing me.

The policies and politics of 80's that earned us those jihadi dollars have absolutely ruined us by leaving us all morally and civilly bankrupt. Look at the generation of that time. Generally speaking, we are a perfect example of 'Might rules Right' mindset.

Fine! Even if its Washington, or for that matter Delhi, or even Satan himself, the million dollar question remains what are we to do now? This war is not going to end soon. At least not in next 3 to 4 years! Keep the example of Afghan Jihad in mind. The war lords created then, inculcated that jingo mindset which in that tribal set up, was transferred to the next generation. Consider the number of fighting tribesmen against Army and keep in mind the numbers of those who got crushed between the two fighting giants for no ideological fault of their own. The next generation of both these groups are a gone case already - another generation of jingoists. Their culture and traditions would do little than acting as a catalyst for the process.

While that in itself is enough to make one numb with fear, there is this battlefield now extending upto schools and play areas. The schools remain closed till 25th of this month but what would happen after that? Would everything return to normal? Would one be feeling safe while dropping one's kid at school on 26th? or on 27th or 28?

How long is this going to last?

I like to wish that practically there is something more in this regard that one can do in addition to whining in person and in cyber space. Please suggest what should WE do to save what is ours: Faith, Life and Pakistan. Lets think, lets build, or at the very least, lets try to save whats already built.

Please come forward. If you can not commit more than a bare minimum, then at least please don't be numb. Please do not desensitize yourself. If there is anything more lethal than a bullet in your heart, it is a desensitized mind in your head.

The story of the parents gone berserk looking for their kids at the IIUI today, must not be repeated anywhere else. To ensure that, its WE who have to do something. Lets come together, forward. Lets THINK.

I read once, TERROR is the most lethal ammunition. Lets not be wounded by it. Please.

S O S.

I wish there was at least one argument that could let me disagree with your assumption; but theres none! You are right.
I hope in times to come we prove ourselves better than this.

I guess we all feel completely powerless, but it is a shame education has to suffer. Children need to be educated no matter what is happenning in the country. Educational institutions should remain open.

It is very hard to know what common people like us can do to help, apart from pray and ensure we send our kids to school to send a message to people trying to take away the normality of daily life. I wish we had political leadership who was astute and confident, but well, we get the leaders we deserve, i guess!

You're not smiling as much, I can totally relate to that.

Quin,
It was reassuring, at the very least, to know that the pain is shared. Thank you.
I can not agree much that the cycle has to reach the point zero before anything could be rebuilt. But the problem at hand is that I do not see that coming in the next couple of years. And with this suffocating atmosphere of fear and terror looming in air, where one is always mistrusting the person standing next to him as a probable suicide bomber, I see no way of going through these years.
However, as you so truly pointed out, the Operation Cleanup always begins at one's own end!

Thank you for sharing :)

Sunil,
There is most definitely a not thorough understanding of my faith at your end. Islam endorses 'slamati'. Its individuals who have gone astray, a practice that isn't alien even in the faith that you belong to.

With the deepest pain and with a sense of desperation, this probably is on the mind of many. A very valid question - what can be done?
I think there is no one answer. It may differ from person to person.
The tragedy however is that sometime the course of destruction has to be complete before something can be rebuilt. There may be no solace in this thought, but since many years ago when I had clearly seen / felt the shape of things coming, I knew intuitively that there is not much hope left. It was mid-eighties and mohajars and pukhtons in Karachi started brutally murdering each other and burning each others houses.
That night I could not sleep. I was working in the Middle East when I heard the news. In fact, since then I have never slept very well. Since then I have thought about this question and tried to do a few things, but seeing futility of it, started focusing inward. Is it an escape? I have thought about that too. But in the end, my solace is that God has its own mysterious ways to clean up His stuff and my job is to clean up my own stuff. If I can just do that - it will be some contribution towards cleaning the mess of this world.
If anyone can come up with something more practical and more meaningful than this, I will be happy to follow the suit.

your faith contradicts life and so you can not have both.you have to give up one --either faith or life

Please pray for all the children who are alive, and for all those whom we have lost to this insanity.
