It's a full five months since I last wrote an iLog and wouldn't even be doing this now if Chowkie member 'category7' hadn't mentioned not seeing one for a while. Suppose I've had nothing really interesting to say in all this time. But by chance I've also noticed that my personal information profile has now been viewed by coming up to 10,000 people - and I dare say that as a result of this it's going to be pushed way beyond that figure. Crikey - even allowing for those coming back for a second peep it really is a phenomenal figure for just 3 years. Why are so many interested, I wonder? I do wonder from time to time whether too much has been given away in my profile. It's certainly more detailed than any other one I've seen - leaves me feeling somewhat naked and exposed. There's not much that isn't there - none of the sense of mystery and semi-anonymity with which most Chowkies cloak themselves. Although it was written when I was a new and enthusiastic Chowkie there's nothing to stop me even now paring it down. But then I think, "Oh, what the hell! Anyone who already knows me is hardly likely to think that 'khakiflash' is someone else." (Even my everyday nickname is the first half of my Chowkie name, for goodness sake.) Talking of which, a Chowkie pal whom I know personally - and am not going to identify (he hardly submits posts anyway) - he suggests that I tell the story of how I came to arrive at my Chowkie name. He finds the story funny - in fact when I first told him he almost pissed himself. But we both agree that something this Chowk site lacks is humour that is not based on disparaging others. Most of what passes for laughs here seems to be based on demeaning others for their race, nationality, religion, sex or sexuality. But the story I've been asked to tell was, although initially embarrasing for myself (I'd have to omit some parts and euphemise others in order so as not to give offence) has become, even to me after the passage of time, quite amusing so I might do it. Maybe it will raise an innocent smile or even a chuckle or two even if it is at my own expense. But before I explain the derivation of my Chowkie name, in order to give the full story perhaps I'd better preface that with how my own nickname arose, which is itself a bit of a curious story, starting with humour and leading into.....well, we'll have to see if I have the guts to go into detail on what it led up to. So, if I haven't put any readers out there to sleep, watch this space.
